NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards
Medal Use Guidelines
When makers enter the NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards they agree to abide by the NZ Ice Cream Association’s Medal Use Guidelines.
Abridged Guidelines
a. Any advertising, promotion, or publicity relating to or referring to the NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards must not be false, misleading, or deceptive.
b. Only the official image of the NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards medal logo, as supplied by the NZICA, shall be used to advertise the respective award medal won by a product.
c. The NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards medal logo remains the intellectual property of the NZICA and must not be altered without written consent from the NZICA Executive Committee.
d. When the medal logo is incorporated into product labelling or promotional material, it must only be used in conjunction with the specific product that won the award, and without any changes to that product's formulation.
e. When promoting the award across either owned or paid channels, the year the award was won must be clearly mentioned.
f. On-Pack Time Limits: Medal stickers and award artwork may only be displayed directly on product packaging for a designated period following the award:
Supreme Champion Medals: Maximum of five years from the date the award was received.
Category Champion, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals: Maximum of three years from the date the award was received.
g. Perpetual Promotion: Awards and medals may be referenced in perpetuity (forever) on company websites, in-store signage, digital platforms, and social media, provided the year of the award is stated.
h. Examples of appropriate wording for promoting the NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards are as follows:
Supreme Award: “Supreme Champion [or Supreme Boutique Champion], as judged at the [insert year] NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards”
Category Award: “Best [flavour/product], as judged at the [insert year] NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards”
Gold or Silver Awards: “Gold/Silver award winner, as judged at the [insert year] NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards”
i. Under no circumstances may an NZICA member, entrant, or award winner refer to the results of other entrants in their publicity. There must be no mention of results other than their own.
j. Under no circumstances should an NZICA member, entrant, or award winner invent or develop new awards and/or logos to represent results obtained from the NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards without permission from the NZICA Executive Committee; nor should they invent or develop awards and/or logos inferring national recognition, even if no mention of the NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards is made.
k. It is expected that all personnel involved with promoting the awards—including marketing, PR, and social media teams or agencies—are fully briefed on these conditions.
l. The NZICA Board has the mandate to take appropriate sanctions against any member, entrant, or award winner found to be breaching these guidelines.
